Will we get there in time for someone to answer the phone? I thought.

Even as the Pacific Northwest sun beat down on us on a mid-summer morning, it was cold AF.

What if we get to the phone and no one answers? I worried.

Below the snow-capped, cragged peaks of the Cascade Mountains, a small ferry appeared from behind an island dense in Fir trees.

It crawled through the bright turquoise water as it transported us, our camping gear, and four days of food and drink, to the next lake.

As the ferry docked, a truck pulled up to carry us through the steep mountains before depositing us at a trailhead that lead to the phone.

Is that the phone, I asked, trying to avoid the tingling in my arms as they went numb carrying our load. It looked like an 80’s land-line, but sat on a small wooden post at the end of the trail.

There was a phone number written on the side.

We’re here, can you pick us up? I yelled into the phone.

We’d arrived in Ross Lake, a long skinny lake that sits between Canada and the U.S. But, our journey wasn’t even close to over.

Everything about getting to Ross Lake is ANNOYING.

Before we even got to the ferry, we had to camp overnight near the park ranger to secure a permit early in the morning. From the phone booth, someone had to pick us up in a boat to transport us to our canoes. Then we had to paddle almost 2 hours to our camp site.

Everything had to be precisely timed, but it didn’t matter because we REALLY wanted to go.

This is how you know you are on the right track when pursuing your purpose.

You have found it, if it’s ANNOYING AF and you will still find yourself pursuing it.

When you find yourself sacrificing, reorganizing your schedule, adopting a “go with it” attitude and slightly loving the pain...that’s it. You found it!

Have you found it? If yes, tell us about your experience. If not, what frustrates you most in the pursuit?

Want to get unstuck from meaningless work? These 10 mind-bending exercises will inspire new ideas and help you pivot.
